about

'Lumière du Côté Obscur' is a project which aims to gather music from the past that never got the attention it deserved when and after it was released in the 80s and 90s.

The idea emerged out of the music collection from Heap, who hoarded music that was overlooked in the past. Mostly the music's great potential was failed to be seen.

For 'Edition 1' Heap compiled tracks produced in Austria and Germany in the years between 1985 - 1993. The pieces create a light and uplifting atmosphere but were definitely made for the dancefloors.

Art-Hur - Never More (The Monologue Mix)

Art-Hur aka Arthur Singer, part of Viennese synth band 'Poligam', collaborated with forward-thinking producer Richard Österreicher Jun. on this track for a compilation called 'More Than One', out on Richard Österreicher's label 'Sing Sang Records' in 1985. This never-before-released "instrumental" version is called 'The Monologue Mix' since it only features Art-Hur's voice, unlike the "original" version which additionally features the voice of a female counterpart contributing to telling a story of a coincidental meeting of two lovers.

The version was found on the original master tape when I met Richard Österreicher Jun. in his studio in 2018 and was remastered by Sam Irl in 2020.

Gerd Pommerien - Morgana

I stumbled across this song by accident browsing the internet for information on the owner of 'Pink World Records' when sample-recordings from his publishing company were made streamable on his website. It turned out the music was actually produced by Gerd Pommerien, owner of the above mentioned 'Pink World Records'. The track was unreleased and it took only a short time to convince the artist to collaborate.

The track was rerecorded from the original tape, digitally restored by Heap and mastered by Sam Irl in 2020.

Double Desire - Stardance (The 21.7.69 Dance Mix)

I was first introduced to the cover version of John Forde's famous 'Stardance' in 2017 by premium Austro-digger Luziprak. Shortly after I heard the song (that was only ever released on a 7'' before) I contacted one of the guys behind the 'Double Desire' project. He was able to send me an archive copy of the 7'' and was very much up to provide the special '21.7.69 Dance Mix' for the compilation when I asked him during Corona lockdown times.

This version was never released before due to concerns about included NASA audio samples and was provided in flawless digital form to get remastered by Sam Irl in 2020.

nea t - change

The two tracks by 'nea t' are taken from what might be the best techno EP ever released in Vienna. It was a nice and warm Autumn day in 2019 when I checked infamous 'Griller Records' together with a guest from Munich, my long time digging fella 'Le Discoboulet', when I found this overpriced record having written "Vienna Techno 90s" on the outer plastic sleeve. Just a few seconds of listening made me decide to buy it, even though it was offered for more than 5 times the average price on Discogs.

A couple of days after I found the EP I tracked down the artist Christian Stefaner-Schmid who was living close to my new flat and we met for coffee and a chat about his old times in the Viennese scene. Christian recorded the tracks from the original master tape from 1993 and handed them over to me to get them remastered by Sam Irl in 2020.
